A Tecumseh man has been jailed after it was discovered a recent fire was an arson. Brett Coker, the Tecumseh Chief of Police made the announcement via press release on Tuesday morning. At 12:39pm on Monday, the Tecumseh Police Department was dispatched to a possible structure fire at the Dollar General store at 5 1 5 North Evans Street.
Upon arrival, officers noticed a large amount of smoke coming from the building. Officers assisted the evacuation of employees and relayed what they knew to arriving fire crews. During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the fire had been intentionally set by a “customer.”
After reviewing video surveillance and conducting interviews with various witnesses, investigators were able to determine the name of the alleged suspect. The 28- year-old male, a Tecumseh resident, was arrested and lodged at the Lenawee County Jail On arson related charges.
Additional charges may be forthcoming pending the results of a complete investigation.
