Mr Biden was asked whether the US would be willing to get its military involved to defend Taiwan during a press briefing on Monday, to which he responded: “Yes – it’s a commitment we made”.
The White House has since released a statement confirming Mr Biden’s comments do not reflect a change in US policy.
“It’s always an unnamed, anonymous White House official that cleans up the blunder,” Ms McEnany said.
“These gaffes are alarming. They’re weird to watch.”
