This study explores the lexis/words used by two different newspapers, that is, The New York Times and El País. More specifically, we scrutinize those words that these two newspapers make use of when referring to the covid19, and thus evaluate the stance adopted that each newspaper has. Data for this research were gathered from 7 Spanish and 5 American news reports. The analysis focuses on the way these two newspapers lexically represent the coronavirus and how these lexical items influence on the stance adopted by the speaker/writer. In particular, I want to shed light on the following research questions: (1) Which lexical items does each of these newspapers tend to make use of when referring to the coronavirus? (2) Does each of these newspapers adopt the same stance in all the lexical items used?
