Erlanger has selected an architect for its new children’s hospital.

HKS Inc. will design the hospital, and McCarthy Building Companies will tackle construction.

Dreams for the East Third Street building include rooftop gardens, sidewalk cafes, and a nearby wellness district with shops and restaurants.

Erlanger CEO Kevin Spiegel says he wants the children’s hospital to be a new Chattanooga landmark, on par with the Tennessee Aquarium.

While these renderings are preliminary, officials say they do show what is possible.

The new center is expected to cost – $30 million dollars.

A 20-year-old man was shot to death Monday night at Woodlawn Apartments in Chattanooga.

Apprentice Dequan Berry was taken to Erlanger where he died from multiple wounds.

While he was there, a large crowd gathered outside and police were called.

Police say the crowd tried to enter the hospital. That’s when violence broke out and officers began using pepper spray.

Four people were arrested, including the victim’s sister, Akeyllya Berry.

She says she was hit in the face and Tased, and that the officer shouted racial slurs.

Police have opened an investigation – into the incident.

A new restaurant has been chosen to replace TGI Friday’s next to the Tennessee Aquarium.

Puckett’s Grocery and Restaurant will open at the spot early next spring.

Puckett’s, which is based in the Nashville area, has a 10-year lease for its space in Chattanooga.

The company plans to employ 70 people. Construction may start on the space – in December.

One of the largest remaining undeveloped tracts of land along the Tennessee River in Chattanooga may soon have a new owner.

The 200-acre site at Lupton City is currently owned by BlueCross Blue Shield.

Now an Augusta, Georgia company has a contract to buy the land, which was listed at $10 million dollars.

Blanchard & Calhoun Commercial plans to build mixed-use housing on the site, after the deal closes – in 2015.

A suspect has been arrested after a kitten was set on fire and killed in Cleveland, Tennessee.

The 8-week-old kitten had burns to 90 percent of its body and died nearly two weeks after its injuries.

Cleveland police say a $1,000 dollar reward motivated a witness to come forward, and led to the arrest.

Now 31-year-old Gary A. Westfield has been charged with animal cruelty.

He faces up to six years in prison and a fine – of up to $3,000 dollars.

A Polk County Tennessee woman has been arrested after allegedly bribing voters.

Jo Ann Cronan is charged with paying people to vote for certain candidates during the August election.

The votes were said to have been bought with either $15 dollars or a Xanex tablet, but that hasn’t been confirmed.

District Attorney Steve Crump says that kind of criminal activity has been accepted as part of life in Polk County for far too long, and will no longer be tolerated.

The TBI is also investigating illegal election activities – in Monroe County.

The UTC student accused of placing a hidden camera in a restroom at the Chattanooga Billiard Club, has pleaded guilty.

21-year-old Justin Wilson was arrested in July after a patron found the camera, which contained footage from other local restrooms.

Wilson will not be required to register as a sex offender. He has been sentenced to nearly a year – of probation.

Finally, A Chattanooga-based company is on the front lines of fighting Ebola in the U.S.

The company, SafetyPlus, is responsible for decontaminating aircraft, vehicles and treatment facilities where Ebola victims have been.

It’s one of just two companies in the nation approved by the EPA to clean up after the deadly virus.

The company’s president, Clay Wardlaw, is a Baylor School graduate.

He says the SafetyPlus Biological Emergency Response Team is part of history – in the making.
