The tricky part about this, is that it’s true. Guy did shoot and kill a police officer. But this shooting happened during a no-knock raid on his home. Killeen police say that they suspected Guy of having drugs.
Cohen explains that police in Killeen, Texas had been surveilling Marvin’s home for quite some time, based on a tip from an informant that he was selling drugs.
Authorities, in spite of their best efforts, were unable to prove that he had done anything wrong. Because of this, they decided to conduct a no-knock raid.
“The judge gave them a no-knock warrant in 5 minutes,” wrote Cohen.
On May 9th, 2014, police entered Marvin’s home on that no-knock. It was 5:30am. Cohen explains that days earlier, a home invasion of a woman’s home in the area, resulted in her being seriously injured.
Marvin and his neighbors had been shocked by this act of violence. And because of that act, he believed he and his family to be in danger. Marvin decided to defended himself, allegedly killing one of the officers.
Cohen explains that the officer may have even died from friendly fire.
“During the raid, an officer tripped, and officers began firing everywhere, endangering themselves, Marvin, his girlfriend, and the entire complex,” explained Cohen.
Marvin realized that the home invaders were police, and then surrendered. His girlfriend’s ribs were broken after he surrendered, and authorities found no drugs in his home.
Earlier this year, the City of Killeen government passed a ban on no-knock raids, which makes the way that police broke into Marvin’s home illegal.
Even still, after 7 long years, Guy still hasn’t seen his day in court. His charge carries a maximum penalty of execution. He has even dismissed 3 different public defenders.
Guy explained to ABC 25 that the public defenders all pressured him to accept a plea bargain. “Free Marvin Guy,” wrote Cohen to conclude his post.
