State of Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has asked the Michigan High School Athletic Association to consider moving sports that don’t have the option of social distancing from the fall to the spring. MHSAA Director of Broadcast Properties John Johnson said the organization is considering a number of COVID-19 contingency plans, including flipping the entire fall and spring seasons.
The MHSAA is a private organization, and not controlled by the State. The MHSAA discussed how it would handle the cancellation or postponement of the fall sports season. Johnson said a decision on flipping the fall and spring seasons could come as early as mid-July 2020.
