A great way of learning new programs and skills is to set up a fake “real life situation” with a deadline. In 2014 I had to learn both After Effects and Cinema 4D, but instead of sitting “just” at home with some online course, I made a script for a music video and enlisted three of my friends and got to it. The script called for a lot of special effects, so for 6 months after the camerawork and edit was done, I sat at home honing in on these programs to get the “job” done. I learned a lot and my inspiration was flowing with ideas.
Programs used to actually get this done (visuals) includes Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro and Photoshop. 3D graphics was mainly done in Cinema 4D, but I used a bit of Maya and 3ds MAX too. For some of the compositing I used Nuke, but 90% was After Effects.
The music is completely done with VST synths and plugins at the time.
There are both Pet Shop Boys references (Easter eggs) in the video, but also several movie Easter eggs as well, so I’ll be impressed if you can spot them all.

Growing up I listened to so much synth-pop and it’s only natural that my own music takes inspiration from many of the acts I loved back then. I still love them and listen to them!
Howard Jones, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, New Order, Erasure, Thompson Twins, Tears for Fears, The Human League, Propaganda. FGTH, Ultravox, OMD, Eurythmics, Duran Duran, Giorgio Moroder, Jean Michel Jarre, Jan Hammer, Alphaville, A-ha as well as loads of artists doing what is now called Italo Disco. And many more great acts like Nik Kershaw, Spandau Ballet, Wham, Dire Straits ++
