The death toll in Myanmar from a magnitude-7.7 earthquake has passed 1,000, with 2,376 people injured and 30 missing. The military junta chief, Min Aung Hlaing, has ordered a prompt rescue effort in affected regions. Buildings in Bangkok, which is 1,000 kilometres from the epicentre, have been severely damaged.
