Feels like a lot of themes in the last few days have relied on cluing for the fun of the themers. My preference is when the themers themselves, or the idea behind the themers/tying the themers together is the fun part. I don’t find that much joy in reading a wacky clue for a phrase that doesn’t actually exist. But that’s all personal preference, and the themers here are fine for what they are.
I liked GAMEPLAN and SNAFU. I liked the bonus symmetric pairs of SARI/DESI and AMERICAN/EUROPEAN. Also liked learning about ALAN Page.
ALLOF and ASIT are not great partials. ATEST is clued as a partial, which is maybe more fun than cluing it as an atomic test, which is usually how it’s clued. That stack of MIII/ACDC/TSKS is a little gnarly. Random Roman numerals are never that great. And I don’t know if I ever hear anybody use the word POKY to mean slow.
18s on the Mini and 3m39s on the daily puzzle. (Weekly running total: 9m33s)
